On November 7, 2015, Chew Wei Chuan and Leanne Chew have been crowned as DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s grand winner of the Crazy, Speedy, Love Wedding Race. The Chews secured the 20 free tables worth MYR51,000.00 grand prize in Kuala Lumpur ahead of runners-up Albert Navin Durairatnam and Vanessa Siva Subramaniam who secured 15 free tables worth MYR39,000.00 and third-placed Kevin Sng and Sarah Ng who secured 10 free tables worth MYR26,000.00. The remainder fourteen couples secured 1 free table each. The total of 17 couples who participated in today’s Crazy, Speedy, Love Wedding Race have earlier confirmed and booked their wedding at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur between July and October this year, with the aim of winning the free tables for their 2016 wedding.
Jean-Sebastien Kling, General Manager DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur states, “At DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, we capture our brand essence ‘where the little things mean everything’ — hence weddings here are injected with a little more flair, and fun! I am truly happy rewarding these free tables after witnessing such high level of ccommitment and sportsmanship from the participants, as the race was not entirely easy”. The Crazy, Speedy, Love Wedding Race has been three months in the making. Spirits and excitement soared high amongst the participants as they prepare to go through the ‘Five Vows of Marriage’, which essentially makes up the five stages of the race. Each couple was given the liberty to race in a group of maximum five consisting of family or friends.
Upon hearing the flag-off horn activated by Kling, the participants raced to the Hotel’s porte cochere where activities of “Stage 1: Feed” awaited them. Two members from each group pulled till foamy the Malaysian iconic beverage, Teh Tarik, drank it and finished five of DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s signature warm chocolate chip cookie. As some struggled at Stage 1, others sped on to “Stage 2: Comfort” where the challenge to be the first to board a single lift one group at a time awaited. Some chose to wait for the lift, while some took the “Detour Challenge” where they ran up six flights of stairs in hopes of a speedier arrival to the next stage of the race. At “Stage 2: Comfort”, participants were tasked to make-up a single bed imitating the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s bed standards, made-up immaculately by the Hotel’s housekeeping team. This was no easy feat as struggles over linen folding, blanketing and pillow puffing were displayed to the amusement of many. “Stage 3: Care” required two participants to each function as a “human mannequin” where movement is restricted, while the other is to be blindfolded while receiving instructions from the “human mannequin” to properly put on the Hotel bathrobe and to effectively pick a bottle of lotion from a collection of the Hotel’s Aroma Actives Hair & Body Care exclusive bathroom amenities. The lotion is then rubbed over the entire face of the “human mannequin” by the blindfolded partner. Moving swiftly, the participants then proceeded to “Stage 4: Provide” where the contestants’ mental capabilities and thought processes were put to the test on paper. Finally, at “Stage 5: Support”, the contestants were faced with the physical demands to carry their partners from the starting line at the Hotel’s main entrance to a designated point where they then ran together as a couple before having to pick up their partner again to complete the finale lap to the finishing line.
